When this tortoise's owners took him to the veterinarian's office, he was in a bad way. This little guy, who is named Blades, was suffering from a number of medical issues which were making it difficult for him to get around. Luckily he was taken to a kind, compassionate and creative vet, who was able to come up with an awesome way to keep Blades off his feet until his legs had healed and he could support his own weight again.

Dr. Carsten Plischke considered Blades' problem and came up with an ingenious idea. He grabbed some of his own son's Lego blocks and set to work making this adorable tortoise his own wheelchair, which is attached to the underside of his shell.

Talking about his solution, Dr. Plischke said:

"For people there are walkers, rollators or prostheses but for animals there are no companies that produce something like that. The size variation of animals means they can't establish uniform products. So you have to come up with creative solutions; every animal needs its own treatment."

Thanks to the great and inventive work of Dr. Plischke, Blades can now use his legs to scoot himself around, without having to bear the weight of his body. In time, however, his legs should heal and he can go back to walking the way tortoises normally do: slowly!
