We dare you to take a look at these images of various delicious food items without getting at least a little bit hungry. At first glance, this array of sandwiches, burgers and sweet treats looks like the kind of feast dreams are made of, but take a closer look and you might notice that they're not actually real. What look like food photos are actually hyper realistic paintings by Tjalf Sparnaay. The Dutch artist has never even had any formal training and is completely self-taught. Impressive!

Sparnaay doesn't just paint food for fun, he likes to paint giant versions of everyday items that people have an attachment to, in order to get the viewer to re-examine these objects. Talking about his work, he said…
My paintings are intended to enable the viewer to experience reality once again, to rediscover the essence of the object that has become so common. I wish to reduce it to the DNA of the universal structure in all its beauty. I call it "the beauty of the everyday."
These paintings are ridiculously impressive, and so realistic that they look like actual food. Now excuse us while we go make ourselves a sandwich.
