Lacoste Introduces New Logos Featuring 10 Endangered Species

The famous sports fashion brand Lacoste has been known for its iconic crocodile logo. But the company announced that it will be replacing the crocodile logo with different animals. So, does it mean we’ll never be seeing the crocodile logo ever again? Before you fret, let us first tell you that the replacement is not for good. Lacoste unveils its new limited-edition Save Our Species collection to promote advocacy in saving endangered species. The new line of polo shirts features logo of 10 different endangered species. Aside from raising awareness, this collection also symbolizes the brand’s partnership with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

For 85 years, Lacoste has been faithful to its iconic crocodile logo, not until now. The new Save Our Species collection will highlight 10 endangered species embroidered in the same manner as the crocodile. Lacoste is producing each design based on the remaining population of the corresponding species. Let’s take the vaquita porpoise for example. It is estimated that there are only 30 remaining individuals of this species. So, Lacoste only produced 30 polo shirts with a vaquita porpoise logo to correlate with the endangerment. Another one is the Sumatran Tiger which has a remaining population of 350 individuals. To coincide with this fact, Lacoste also manufactures just 350 shirts with this logo.

To complete the 10 designs, other species include the California condor, Burmese turtle, Javan rhino, kakapo, northern sportive lemur, Anegada iguana, saola, and the eastern black crested gibbon. In total, the entire Save Our Species collection comprises of 1,775 polo shirts retailing at $185 per piece. Unfortunately, the collection quickly sold out due to its good cause and limited numbers.
