In 2015, IKEA introduced a prototype of the Growroom, a globe-shaped greenhouse that anyone can construct on their own. The spherical DIY greenhouse is designed by Space10, a research and design lab that specializes in creating sustainable ways of living. IKEA partnered with Space10 to bring a sustainable solution to urban farming. Space10 designers Sine Lindholm and Mads-Ulrik Husum designed a spherical greenhouse that featured functional and aesthetic elements. Furthermore, the sustainable structure made use of locally-sourced materials. In February 2017, IKEA officially released the list of instructions to allow urban dwellers to construct their own DIY greenhouse.
The leading home products retail company launched Growroom’s list of 17-step instructions along with the necessary materials and tools. The list of supplies includes 17 sheets of plywood, and 500 pieces of stainless pan head screws. Necessary tools include 2 rubber hammers, 2-mm diameter drill, a screwdriver, and appropriate bit for the screws. Also, the list includes necessary machinery such as CNC milling machine and a table saw. So, you may need to visit the nearest furniture studio to avail the milling machine and the milling services as well.
