There are different forms of art that exist today. Some artworks are illustrative representations of common entities such as landscapes, persons, animals, events, and many more. Many people tend to prefer realistic pieces due to their simplicity and visible meanings. However, there are also those who would rather stare at something mind-boggling. Contrary to simplistic art style, complex works of art present uncommon compositions that are rather psychedelic in form. But just like simple artworks, complex arts also convey a meaning. That is, the meaning isn’t easy to decipher and it depends on the perception of the viewer. One concrete example of this type of art is this collection of amazing wood sculptures that depict some mysterious figures trapped inside.
“Inner Turmoil”
These amazing wood sculptures were created by a Taiwanese artist Tung Ming-Chin. By skillfully carving the wood piece, he tries to materialize the concept of psychological prison. The objects that are trying to break free symbolize inner emotions and the subconscious mind. Tung Ming-Chin demonstrates how these things are trapped inside us as they attempt to get out from the conscious mind.
“The Birth of a New Hero”
Each piece of Tung Ming-Chin’s impressive artworks features hidden objects with protruding figures that are encased in a wooden fabric. The artist also includes other details that add more mystery to the puzzling piece. In his 2013 creation called Breath, the enigmatic humps jutting out from the surface are confusing on their own. But the most baffling parts of the piece were the single limbs popping out from below the boxes.
“Breath”
Tung Min-Chin obtained his bachelor’s and master’s degree at Taipei National University of the Arts in 2005 and 2009 respectively. His series of amazing wood sculptures are included in the cloud database Taiwan Contemporary Art Archive (TCAA). Established by the Association of the Visual Art in Taiwan (AVAT), this free online platform aims to showcase Taiwan’s local artists to the world.
