Imagine seeing a great white shark with large jaws on the beach. That should both be a terrorizing but also a delightful experience if you later knew it was only a large piece of rock with a spray paint graffiti! That’s precisely the experience of the beachgoers at the Palolem Beach in South Goa, India. What a fantastic experience the artist Jimmy Swift gave them!
Hailing from America, the artist Jimmy Swift noticed the perfectly shaped rock. To his creative eyes, it looked like the head of a great white shark! Needless to say, he was inspired by the film “Jaws” to create a horror-like experience for the beachgoers.
Jimmy Swift painted the great white shark in March 2015 and now recalls:
“When I first saw this rock, it looked like a perfect place for a great white. It’s truly amazing how mother nature can carve out such a perfect shape.”
Now, Jimmy Swift has transformed the rock using spray paint into a graffiti, the inspiration of which was from the film “Jaws.” It has now become an icon in South Goa, India.
Jimmy shared an Instagram photo of the resulting graffiti great white shark. He said:
“[It was] the hardest thing I’ve ever painted. I was literally beat[en] up by the waves and rising tide and forced to stop before it was finished.”
Continuing, Jimmy recalls:
“I could have done better, but between the blowing sand and wind, splashing waves, burning hot sun and the fact I’ve never painted a shark before or painted on a 3-dimensional surface like a rock; I think it turned out OK. When I first saw this rock, it looked like a perfect place for a great white. Hopefully, it doesn’t scare the crap out of people! This was inspired by the movie posters from Jaws…. A movie that scared the crap out of me when I was a kid!”
Jimmy Swift was a graffiti artist that has traveled to more than 90 countries for 15 years now. He contributes a piece of his art wherever he goes.
Now, the great white shark graffiti has become a viral photo-op for swimmers.
The Jaws-inspired great white shark was not only Jimmy Swift’s nature-themed graffiti art. He has also transformed another rock into this bushy-haired elephant with the clever use of spray paint.
Of course, people loved his fantastic realism-inspired artworks!
