Anamorphic art involves the application of perspective technique. The result is a deformed image that transforms in its true form when viewed from the right vantage point. This technique has been around since the 15th century. Today, contemporary street artists are making it popular again through their stunning 3D mural drawings and graffiti artworks. One of these anamorphic artists is Sergio Odeith, a 43-year-old Portuguese graffiti artist. He is best known for his giant 3D insect murals. Although most of his works are larger-than-life urban murals of realistically painted insects, he also takes on other subjects such as people, birds, wild animals, reptiles, and more. He has an impressive collection of jaw-dropping 3D street art pieces under his portfolio. But his latest creation, the wrecked bus out of an old block wall, is currently making waves on Instagram.
In the field of graffiti art, Odeith is well-known for his artistic ability to transform any concrete structure into an astonishing lifelike mural. When he posted a photo of a concrete block with a caption “What do you think is going to be painted this time?”, his followers quickly presumed that the artist will be painting another giant insect out of it again. One of his followers answered ‘a praying mantis’ while another replied ‘a giant snake’. Out of all the guesses, only one was able to guess it right. Well, at least one individual was able to figure out that Odeith was planning to draw a bus out of the concrete block.
Odeith explained that he initially didn’t plan to paint on the concrete block when he first saw it. But when he went back home, he woke up from a nap with an inspiration in mind. And that is to turn the concrete block into an abandoned bus.
“So the next day I did the painting, I just thought it was a perfect fit and completely different from all of my pieces.”, he explains.
Odeith revealed that the wrecked bus mural took him approximately 10 hours to complete. And he consumed around 30 cans of spray paint. As soon as he posted the photos of the finished mural on his Instagram page, it immediately garnered plenty of likes and positive feedback from his followers. The wrecked bus post is so far his most liked photo on Instagram and it’s easy to see why. One look at the abandoned bus and you’ll probably think it’s real. Sure, Odeith has created plenty of jaw-dropping 3D street art pieces before. But the wrecked bus is hands-down the pick of the bunch.
