From a mere hobby to an exquisite form of art, embroidery has indeed gone a long way over the years. Contemporary artists are skillfully merging the craft of embroidery with the art of painting. One of the most successful embroidery artists of this era is Vera Shimunia from Russia. Dreamy landscapes in vibrant colors, one would easily mistake her embroidery works for masterpiece paintings. Breathtaking mountainous terrains, lovely flower fields, realistic clouds, and azure sky. The young artist superbly captures the beauty of nature within a small circular frame.
Shimunia’s exceptional talent in painting is undeniable. But why did she decide to use needles and threads instead of paintbrushes and paints? The talented artist revealed that that it was love that inspired her to develop her embroidery skills. One day, she spontaneously tried to create an embroidered piece and the boy she liked (who was also an art enthusiast) found her work ‘cool’. And that’s when she decided to pursue the art of embroidery.
Embroidery pieces that look like paintings
The self-taught artist took about six months to finally showcase her masterpieces to the public. Shimunia started to publish her embroidery creations on Instagram. Not long after, her Instagram page gained quite a following and is still growing as of the moment. As expected, her followers wanted to have the embroidered pieces for themselves. So when people started asking her if they can buy the pieces, the young artist decided to put her creations up for sale.
Shimunia opened a shop on Etsy where her fans and interested buyers can buy her available artworks. Unfortunately, her collection quickly sells out, with many of her avid customers quickly buying her pieces as soon as they’re posted. So, if you really want to get a hold of her stunning creations, we suggest that you check out her Etsy shop on a regular basis.
“I am thinking about future embroidery, I am preparing the necessary materials. Sometimes the picture in my head does not coincide with what I made, then I cut off treads and try again.”, the artist shares.
