The art of embroidery is now taking the world by storm. Who could ever forget the mesmerizing works of artist Vera Shimunia? Now, get ready to see the beauty of this craft once again. Another artist is creating a buzz on social media due to her fascinating collection of artworks. Victoria Richards, an artist from Devon in the UK, is making a name for herself by capturing the beauty of nature on a small, round canvas using needles and thread.
Victoria showcases her masterpieces through her Instagram page chromato_mania. Chromato is a Latin prefix which means ‘color’ and the suffix mania comes from the Greek word which means ‘excessive love’ or ‘obsession’. As the title of her page implies, the artist’s passionate use of rich and contrasting colors is evident through her works. She creates beautiful landscapes and aerial fields with long stitches and fluffy knots of threads.

The creative artist finds her inspiration from the scenes of Devon county. Vast fields of vibrant flowers, long roads and mountain landscapes have been featured in her work. The pieces that get the most attention are her embroidered aerial landscapes. Her aerial embroidered artworks mostly show geometric patchwork of farmland covering the English countryside as seen from a bird’s eye view.

Here’s some surprising facts about this talented artist. Victoria has Asperger’s syndrome, a developmental disorder characterized by restrictive and repetitive patterns of behavior. People with this syndrome typically have difficulty with social interaction and nonverbal communication. However, Victoria uses this disorder to her own advantage.
“I think my Asperger’s syndrome also plays a part. I have sensory sensitivity due to my autism and the world is high definition around me—small noises are too loud, colours are too bright, small touches are overwhelming and stressful. To me, everything around me is emphasised, so I guess it makes sense that I perhaps emphasize things like colour in my art too, as it seems natural to me.”, she shares.
Now, here’s the good part. Victoria is putting her artworks up for sale on her Etsy shop. Most of her masterpieces are sold out but you can check out her shop to see the available pieces.
