You all probably know by now that Classic Blue is Pantone’s color of the year for 2020. So, it’s not surprising to see brands riding the wave of this latest color trend. And we’re not just referring to fashion pieces and interior design elements. In fact, even soft drink brands like Mountain Dew have also jumped on the blue bandwagon.
We’ve spotted a new Atomic Blue flavor on PepsiCo’s website that looks pretty interesting. The description states that it’s “MTN DEW with electrifying lemonade flavor.” Hmm, it seems like a refreshing drink for a warm, sunny day, don’t you think? We’re curious about how this new citrusy concoction would turn out. Plus, we definitely have to try a sip to see if it is on par with the Maui Burst flavor.
The website features it under the fountain drinks category. And take note, it actually contains fewer calories than the OG flavor. This new bright blue soda contains only 90 calories per 12-ounce cup, while the regular-flavour contains 160 calories. Well, it sounds like we’ve found our new go-to summer drink. Hopefully, it will also come in cans and bottles. That way, we can have it whenever and wherever we want to. And more importantly, we can stock up on as many as we want.
This isn’t the first time that Mountain Dew has experimented with a color from the other side of the color wheel. Not too long ago, rumors about the Frostbite flavor, which also happens to be blue, surfaced on the internet. Are these two flavors one and the same? Sadly, there’s no way to find out for now. But one thing’s for sure, we have to get our hands on both flavors.
The soda brand has also released quite a number of classic blue-colored flavors in the past. These include Liberty Brew, Blue Shock and Voltage among many others. Liberty Brew featured a combination of 50 different fruity flavors and was a limited-edition flavor for Memorial Day 2019. Meanwhile, Blue Shock, a mix of raspberry and citrus, is now marketed in most countries as a Slurpee flavor. Lastly, Voltage, a blue-raspberry flavored soda infused with ginseng, is still part of the brand’s current line.
