Being stuck in quarantine has pushed most of us out of our comfort zone because life is different and we are trying new things. And, our usual activities are put on hold so now we’ve got to find new ways to keep ourselves entertained. It seems like baking and movie marathons are popular ways to spend time. But, others have decided to use their free time to participate in the Recreate Art Challenge. So, the challenge started almost right after lockdown measures were put in place and it seems like people loved the idea of transforming themselves into timeless works of art. As a result, it’s become one of the leading forms of quarantine entertainment to date!
So, the Art Challenge was started on March 14th by Instagram account @tussenkunstquarantine and the name translates to “Between Art and Quarantine. Then, a few days after their launch, the Rijksmuseum picked up their concept and drew a bigger crowd of enthusiastic participants. And, it didn’t take long for this challenge to catch the attention of the Getty Museum because it is home to a great collection of art from different eras. Soon after, The “Getty Museum Challenge” was created and thousands of people have joined in the fun.

People are transforming themselves into iconic artworks in the Recreate Art Challenge and it is making the lockdown much more fun because people can get creative
So, joining the challenge is simple. All you really need is your imagination and you can use almost anything to help you complete your recreation. Participants have used common items such as toilet rolls, wood shavings, pasta and even electrical tape. But, if you’re still looking for inspiration then check out @tussenkunstquarantine because they have over 600 amazing art recreations for you to take inspiration from!
Since everyone’s stuck at home, they have had to get really creative with their art recreations. And, the challenge celebrates all art from both the past and the present. Some chose to honour the iconic masterpieces, while others chose to reproduce contemporary art. The challenge is certainly pushing people to think outside box because they’ve got to make their recreation with things at home. And, a lot of people really gave it all that they’ve got to keep their portrayal as close to the original as possible and many have creative tweaks.

You’ll have to get really creative to join the Recreate Art Challenge because you have to use every day items
Most of the clothes worn in the iconic paintings aren’t exactly something you’d have in your closet. Unless, of course, you happen to be a collector of theatre costumes. Because, ruffs and powdered wigs aren’t part of our wardrobe anymore. So, participants of the Art Challenge improvised by wearing tissue rolls around their neck and on their heads instead and the disposable medical mask is also a popular item. Seems like, the incorporation of these essential items is a creative way of remembering this strange time. So, scroll down to see their awesome get ups!
