With all the technological advancements we have, it seems like everything can now be done and enhanced digitally. Modern architects, for example, have been relying on computers to develop designs. However, this Russian architecture student prefers to go back to basics by creating freehand architectural sketches with nothing but a pencil and paper.
So, Adelina Gareeva is the artist and she is currently studying at the the Kazan State University of Architecture and Engineering (KSUAE). Although she’s still a student, the promising architect already has impressive skills because she creates intricate sketches without the help of any computer-aided design (CAD) software. As a result, her detailed illustrations of iconic monuments and fantasy architecture look more like art than technical blueprints.

So, she drafts her work by hand by putting pencil to paper. She publishes her creations on her Instagram page which is quickly gaining thousands of followers. Much like us, many people are delighted to see that there are architects who still draw by hand. Call us traditionalist, but there’s just something about hand-drawn creations that are so captivating.

Most of her architectural sketches are created in a sketchbook. Her drawings often represent of famous landmarks that she sees on her travels. From the Pantheon in Paris, Saint Basil’s Cathedral in Moscow, Saint Peter and Paul Cathedral in Kazan and many more. In addition to historical landmarks, she also unleashes her imagination on paper to create fantasy architecture.
