Cakes have become more than just a dessert option because these days, they now also double as stunning pieces of edible art. We’ve seen ones that come in extremely unusual shapes, as well as ones that look just like shaggy rugs. Indeed, talented bakers from around the world have been constantly pushing the limits of pastry art and baker Siân-Amy Pettit is no different. As she continuously explores different styles and patterns to incorporate into her beaded cakes.
Known online as @thepetitepudding, the cake artist enjoys integrating bold colors and playful patterns into her culinary creations. She uses fine piping tips to create dotted icing designs that resemble small beads. As a result she creates decadent cakes that appear to have beaded and knitted surfaces. In addition, her edible masterpieces typically feature lovely floral patterns and refreshing fruity patterns. She also tries to experiment with other abstract elements and geometric shapes from time to time.

So, it seems her beaded cakes typically feature repeating elements
For instance, we have this repeat strawberry pattern and the result is so cute and colorful
According, to the baker she uses fine piping tips to achieve a seemingly beaded surface for her cakes
The artist revealed that she discovered her style when trying out another popular piping technique.
“I started out with more of a shag carpet piping technique, but I quickly found I preferred a finer, more intricate, and more detailed look to my designs. Something that felt unique, too. So that’s where the technique began, but it continues to evolve.”
Although fruits and flowers are her go-to choices, ice cream and tropical animals are among her seasonal favorites too!
Here is an amazing pattern which features a toucan and it looks so fun on the cake. Something like this would be great for a summer party
And, this popsicle beaded cake is definitely perfect for the summer…
…and so is this tropical-themed beaded cake!
A lot of her cake designs feature flowers to, for instance this one has a large floral pattern which looks like roses
And, just like any other artist, Pettit plans her beaded cake designs carefully
As with any type of artwork, her creative process starts off with careful planning and a sketch of her idea.
“My process usually starts with something that I think would make a fun pattern (like fruit, or flowers, or a rainbow). I usually then sketch out some quick designs. The color palette is really important to me and can completely shape the look of my cake… so a lot of thought goes into that.”
Aside from beaded cakes, the talented artist is also famous for her “knitted” cakes
In addition, she also tries to experiment with other abstract elements and geometric shapes from time to time
The intricate details on each beaded cake are simply superb!
It’s simply amazing how she manages to create repeating elements for her pattern while ensuring proper scaling. Indeed, it’s such a tedious technique that requires a lot of patience, as well as precision. Even though that’s the case, it’s always worth it for the talented artist as the beaded cakes look astonishing.
“It’s definitely a time-consuming technique, but it’s always fun to see it slowly come together!”
This blossom cake is so pretty because of the colors and the pattern
These beaded cakes really look too good to eat!
Although her cake decorating technique is undoubtedly time-consuming, the stunning results always make the tedious process worthwhile
