Artist Johan Karlgren Adds Fun Pixel Art That Interacts With The Surroundings On The Streets

The street isn’t the most exciting place to be with boring cityscapes having bland street façades that only make our everyday lives so dull. In order to bring this uninspiring environment to life, Swedish artist Johan Karlgren adds playful pixel art that also cleverly interacts with the surroundings. Furthermore, it’s just impossible to ignore when digital elements such as pixelated characters are brought to life in the real world.

Street art has truly energized some of the most boring places on earth. Apparently, the public appreciates and enjoys the colorful art installations that are more of stunning artworks than vandalism. Various street artists around the world have successfully liven up several bland cities by transforming mundane urban objects into fun characters. Instead of paint, Karlgren uses a unique medium to create pixelated characters. He crafts 8-bit styled pixel figures from Perler beads and places them all over the streets of Sweden.

To make the pixel art more amusing, the artist cleverly incorporates the pixelated characters with their existing surroundings. Placing a flying Superman in a dented handrail makes it seem like the superhero made the dent himself. Mario and Luigi taking the plunge on a water slide from a drain pipe really give a splash of fun to the bland spot. The iconic shark from Jaws emerging from a puddle is indeed an exciting sight to see.
