Flawless sun-kissed skin, super tiny waist, supermodel pose, and a perfect face – this is how social media influencers present themselves on their photos. More often than not, many people who see these perfect photos feel worse about their own bodies and sometimes doubts about self-worth for not looking as perfect as these influencers. But lo and behold, Amsterdam-based vlogger Rianne Meijer reveals the imperfect side of these superficially perfect photos with her series of Instagram vs reality side-by-side shots.
As a popular vlogger, Meijer keeps her 1.5 million followers updated with photos of herself. She is beautiful, fashionable, and has the ideal body that any woman could only dream of. While there’s no doubt she’s physically attractive, Meijer admits that there is another side to her photos that looks unflattering. Getting the perfect shot entails finding the best angle, getting the best figure flattening pose, wearing the right makeup, using the best lighting, and applying the right filter. So you see, it takes a lot of time, effort, and hundreds of takes just to get that one perfect shot.

But of course, it’s much better to explain it on photos than in words. In her series of Instagram vs reality side-by-side comparison pics, she reveals the reality behind each of her gorgeous photos. Next to her perfect photos are candid shots of her usual self – slouching, double chin, skin imperfections, messy hair, and other unsightly attributes. Apparently, most social media influencers would never want to reveal their candid shots that are unflattering. But Meijer opted to unveil what’s really happening behind these perfect Instagram photos.
“I decided to share them because it felt unfair to only show the ‘perfect’ pictures. And I figured it might help some people to feel better about themselves,” Meijer said. “Hopefully when people see perfect pictures of beautiful girls and start to feel insecure, they think about these posts I did and remember that those pics are almost never as perfect as they seem. And of course I wanted to give people a laugh.”
