Being a woman can be challenging and truth be told – there are everyday struggles that women have to deal with. Montreal-based cartoonist and illustrator Cassandra Calin shows the challenges of being a female through her series of semi-autobiographical comics. From dealing with bad hair days and finding the perfect bra to painful periods and makeup woes. Luckily for guys, they will never have to stress about these things. But girls don’t have the same luxury.

Of course, all women are different and one woman’s struggle may not be as a big deal for another. Calin illustrates amusing situations from her own experience through her series of ‘slice of life comedy’ comics. In charming black and white illustrations, she documents the hilarity of everyday events that most girls can relate to.

This 27-year-old self-taught artist had always dreamed of becoming an artist from a very young age. She would constantly doodle ever since she was a toddler and draw different faces all the time. Her biggest break as an artist came after she posted her first series of hilarious comics on Tumblr after a friend suggested it. Her followers rapidly grew and decided to take advantage of other popular social media platforms to showcase her artworks.

“I think social media is a great way to build and connect to an audience. But don’t stress on creating solely what’s considered ‘safe’ or ‘trending’ (because trends change so quickly anyway), but instead do what you genuinely enjoy.”, says Calin.
