John Bramblitt's paintings are incredible. What's even more incredible? He only started painting in 2001, after losing his sight to an epilepsy-related condition. Bramblitt is 'functionally blind'. This means his eyes can only differentiate between light and darkness. Despite this, he has developed a highly successful way of painting. The artist uses textured paints and literally feels his way around the canvas. "Basically what I do is replace everything that the eyes would do for a sighted artist with the sense of touch" he writes on his website. "The raised lines take care of finding your placement on the canvas." For color mixing, he has had all of the bottles and paint tubes Brailled. Then he simply follows recipes to mix them. "This is no different from baking a cake" he says. Check out his amazing works!
