As odd and impossible as it sounds, Carol Milne knits with glass. Yes, really. Her 'Rumpelstiltskin' moment involved learning how to turn wax into glass. As she'd never seen anyone else do this, the process of learning took a lot of trial and error. Firstly, she knits something, using wax, before surrounding the wax in a heat-tolerant refractory or investment material. The wax is then melted out, leaving a shell of investment material around the space that was the wax object. The mold is then placed in a kiln, and glass melted into the empty space. Finally the mold is removed and destroyed to reveal the knitted glass piece within! Take a look at the amazing results!
