If an IT consultant with little to no construction experience told you they wanted to build a swimming pond from scratch in their backyard, you’d probably think they were being over ambitious at best and reckless at worst. But, when this happened to Reddit-user VonBubenberg, whose dad was the over ambitious IT consultant, he didn’t try to discourage him, instead he and his sister pitched in and helped. This could turn into something wonderful, or it could be an epic fail. Let’s take a look and see what happened.
It started out with just a couple of vague outlines.
The next step was to excavate the hole, so they hired a mini digger and got to work.
They chose to have it so that water keeps circulating out of and back into the pool. Here’s the pipe that will make that happen.
There’s still some digging to be done by hand. I think the sister pulled the short straw.
Once all the digging was done, the hole had to be lined with felt and then plastic to keep it watertight.
In the garage are the barrels that hold the water filtered in and out of the pond.
They lined the deep part of the pool with decorative rocks and used pebbles on the shallower parts.
Now it’s time to fill it up!
Looking good, but it’s not quite done yet.
They also installed some awesome lights for night swimming.
And the finishing touch?
A deck to surround the pond area.
All done now, and it looks incredible!
It just goes to show what you can achieve with a lot of hard work and dedication, even if you don’t have the experience to back you up.
