Here's a heart-warming story for you, straight out of Iowa. A local barber from Dubuque is doing something amazing for kids in his neighborhood. Courtney Holmes knows that many kids find it hard to read aloud and he wanted to do something to help out. So, as part of the annual Back to School Bash in Comiskey Park, he traded free haircuts for a story. Any kid who would read him a story out loud, from a selection of books he provided, could get their new do for free. Not only is this excellent for helping children read better, it's also of huge benefit to low income families who might not have been able to afford a professional haircuts for their kids to go back to school with. Although this was a one off event, Holmes said he looks forward to continuing the project going forward. Talking to USA Today, he said…
"The kids would come in, and I would say, 'Go to the table and get a book you might like, and if you can’t read it, I’ll help you understand and we can read it together.' To be honest, I was amazed. The line started with four kids, and next thing I knew it was like 20 kids, all waiting for a haircut and eager to read."
