It goes without saying that puppies are among the most precious things to come into our lives. So it’s always heartbreaking when they become a victim of violence. Brodie, for one, is a very visible survivor of such an experience. His mother mauled him when he was just a tender 13-day-old pup. This left him severely disfigured. You’d think that after being mauled by his mother, this poor pup would end up dying. But he was a fighter, and now he lives his best life with his forever family.
His mother’s mauling resulted in the young pup getting a severe cranial injury on top of his facial wounds. His wounds eventually healed. But his jaw fused together. His distorted appearance became cause for concern. It wasn’t easy finding a person willing to welcome him into their family.

Luckily, the pup did get adopted. Sadly, his first foster human returned him to Old MacDonald Kennels in Alberta, Canada. Apparently, the pooch “was too hyper” and his initial foster family couldn’t handle it. This was definitely a sad event for our dear pooch. But at least his first foster human was responsible enough to admit that they couldn’t give the kind of care that this special dog needed!
But it seemed that our darling doggo didn’t have to wait very long, because when 30-year-old Amanda Richter and her 23-year-old boyfriend Brad Ames stumbled upon his story, they fell in love with puppy.

So they traveled to the shelter and took him home. And they’ve never been happier. “He’s definitely hyper, but he is so intelligent,” Amanda gushed. “His brain is perfectly fine and he learns tricks within 10 minutes, usually, which tells me he is a smart boy.” His loving fur family adore him so much that they decided to share his antics with the rest of the world by creating an Instagram account. The account, @bestboybrodie, now has over 166,000 followers and boasts the coveted blue verified badge. I mean… how could you not fall in love with this boy?! He’s so cute!

Ever since he became a part of Amanda and Brad’s family, the dog has been living his best life. He gets to explore the world around him, play with toys (he even has his very own plastic pool!), and munch on treats. “He just needed patience and someone to be consistent,” Amanda shared. She’s definitely got a good point! Training a dog takes plenty of patience, time, and effort… but it’s all worth it in the end!

Now, his mom shared that they are now beginning to train him to take on the role of a therapy dog. He’ll be helping those with disabilities and visible differences when he gets certified. It’s amazing how lives can change for the better when you match up with the person that’s meant for you. Amanda and Brad are definitely exemplary people for seeing the potential of what this damaged dog could be when others couldn’t.
At the moment, there is a Brodie shirt for sale online. And every time someone buys one, a portion of the sale will go directly to Old MacDonald’s Kennels, where our extraordinary, future-therapy dog was rescued! Get the shirt here.
