Remember the good old days when we rented movies and played board games? It seems like a lifetime ago when this was how we kept boredom at bay. But now, we can have the best of both worlds with the Blockbuster Party Game! This nostalgic board game is the ingenious creation of Big Potato Games, and the company wrote in the official release that:
“The golden age of video rental is back with a party game all about those movies you know and love. And like all great blockbusters, this one is a double bill!”
Finally, all our movie-related knowledge can be put to good use with the Blockbuster Party Game!

Unlike conventional board games that require silence and strategy, the Blockbuster Party Game is a game that requires movement and quick wit. This game promises a night full of fun, excitement, and nostalgia, which in our opinion is a great way to spend a Saturday night! Plus, the game actually comes packaged like one of those Blockbuster VHS tapes that we used to take home every Saturday night!
And inside the clever VHS box, you will find 200 classic movie and 60 category cards, a board that resembles a parking lot, and a miniature version of the iconic blue-and-yellow sign.
“It’s an all-out race to collect a film for everyone and be crowned the new Blockbuster big-shots! You’ll want to clear a space on your top 10 family party games – this is one that’s sure to bring the entertainment home again and again.” Target wrote on its item page.
The board game offers two exciting games where you have every opportunity to outwit your friends!

In this game, you and your friends will have to split into two teams. Then, each team will choose a representative to go head-to-head in quick buzzer battle. Each player will get 15 seconds to name a movie that fits the topic given, like “movie with dogs”. Players must think quick, shout out a movie title like “Oliver & Company!” or “Homeward Bound!”, then slap the buzzer to put pressure on their opponent. (Kind of has a novel, classic game show vibe, doesn’t it?)
Whoever runs out of time hands the advantage to the other team, who will have control for the next round: Triple Charades Jeopardy. Big Potato, on its product page, explained how the game goes:
“Get your three movies correct and you move onto the other team’s. Collect as many movie cards in round two as you can. The first team to finally collect a movie in all eight genres wins.”

There may only be one remaining Blockbuster store surviving today, but this board game makes sure that the much-beloved movie rental franchise lives on.
