Despite the common stereotype of cats being aloof and unfriendly, many domestic felines prove that they can be friends with anyone. We’ve heard about the cat who has a hedgehog for a best friend and the kitten who formed an unlikely friendship with an owl. This just proves that cats can be friends with most creatures even lizards. As you will see today when these cats met lizards they seem to bond rather than battle.
People have been sharing photos of the moment when their cats met lizards and most of them feature cuddling and playing. And they’re just the cutest thing ever. Medium-sized lizards such as bearded dragons, red ackies, common iguanas and Savannah monitors are becoming popular pets nowadays. However, cat owners are thinking twice whether it is safe to bring home a lizard pet with a feline in the house. But it turns out that there’s nothing to worry about because these two pets can actually get along. In fact, these two unlikely pals can even make a perfect friendship.

But then, always remember that not all cats are the same. Although most cats can tolerate having a friendly reptile around, some cats may not. And that may include your kitty. It’s best to keep your pet lizards in a secure glass tank to keep the cat from getting in. Keep in mind that felines are natural predators and they may find these reptiles as a prey. So, it’s better safe than sorry.

However, most domestic cats who were raised in a household since birth tend to lose their wild instincts. And when they do, these friendly cats tend to consider other household pets as members of the family. But then again, some cats may still hold on to their predatory instincts despite being completely domesticated. They are more likely to be friends with medium-sized lizards because they may find their size a bit intimidating. Small lizards, on the other hand, are a different story.

Unlike medium-sized reptiles, small lizards are fast and tiny, thus they possess the ideal characteristics of a tempting prey. Since these common house geckos are easy to ingest, cats are more likely to bite and eat them. Now, this is where it becomes dangerous, not just for the lizard but also for the cat. Take note that lizards are poisonous for cats to eat. These reptiles have a parasitic liver fluke living inside their bodies. When a cat eats it, the fluke can cause serious damage to the cat which may result in fatal liver inflammation.

In addition to liver flukes, your cat may also catch Salmonella by eating house lizards. Symptoms of liver fluke and salmonella infections may not show right away. If you notice symptoms on your cat such as vomiting, diarrhea, a swollen abdomen or yellow eyes and skin then take your cat to the vet immediately for treatment.
