There has been a lot in the press recently about Cecil the 13-year-old Southwest African lion. Cecil was shot and killed by American big-game hunter and dentist Walter Palmer on July 1st 2015. Palmer lured Cecil away from his home in the Hwange National Park, Matabeleland North, Zimbabwe and shot him with an arrow. Palmer then tracked the lion for 40 hours and shot him to death. Of course this barbaric act created an outcry all over the world and with good reason.
With the plight of endangered species being so topical at the moment, Discovery Channel lit up the facade of the Empire State Building with images of 160 endangered animals. Using 40 projectors, the event named 'Projecting Change' attracted huge numbers of people in the three hours it was held for on August 1st 2015. The channel was promoting its new documentary named 'Racing Extinction'.
