The Lantern Festival is a Chinese celebration which falls on the 15th day of the first lunar month of the Chinese calendar. The date varies on the Gregorian calendar, which is used in much of the rest of the world, but this year it fell on March 5th. The history of the Lantern Festival is unclear and steeped in legend, but many think that it originated as a way of celebrating the lengthening of the days as winter draws to a close. Part of the celebrations is the hanging of ornate paper lanterns. The ones that were on display as Tang Paradise, a large theme park in northwest China, were amazing! The Tang Dynasty style gardens that are part of the theme park are filled with beautiful ponds, which made an idyllic and ethereal backdrop for these stunning lanterns.
Beautiful! We'd love to be about to visit China for the Lantern Festival someday.
