In most cases, senior dogs and those suffering from diseases or injuries are euthanized to make room for younger and healthier dogs with higher chances of getting adopted.

So when you adopt a rescue dog from a shelter, you’re essentially saving an animal from getting killed and freeing up a space for new rescue animals to enter. This is why many animal welfare organizations are encouraging everyone to adopt from shelters instead of shopping at pet stores and puppy mills.
