It’s a good thing that more and more people are starting to perceive tattoos in a positive light. This only means that there are now more people who appreciate these artists’ unparalleled talents. Likewise, tattoos have become more than just a mere form of self-expression but as an exceptional form of body art as well.
Maslov’s creations are definitely one for the books. She particularly specializes in dotwork tattoos which successfully showcase her proven expertise and undeniable passion towards the craft. Her works are often a balance between the dark and delicate. Revolving around Gothic, historical, nature-inspired themes, this Melbourne-based artist intricately renders her monochrome designs in black ink, dot by dot. This results in flawlessly astounding works that uncannily resemble antique lithographs.
Be it on paper or skin, this tattoo artists work is simply stunning
The artist started out as a freelance illustrator. However, she soon found herself venturing into the tattoo industry as her commission works for custom tattoo designs grew significantly. She now works at the Heretic Tattoo Studio in Fitzroy, Australia along with other talented tattooists.
In an interview, Maslov shared how finding an apprenticeship helped her to get where she is now. That’s why she advises anyone who’s interested in tattooing to do the same and not just practice on their own. She also suggests developing a “substantial folio” that exhibits one’s versatility in style and technical application.
Indeed, Maslov has gone a long way from being an apprentice to a full-fledged artist. In fact, she had already held a few solo exhibitions in the past. The most recent being Arcana at the Beinart Gallery last December 2019. Meanwhile, she’s also part of Beinart Gallery’s upcoming group exhibition entitled Small Works 2020.
