Realizing that living in an overpopulated city like New York meant studio space was limited and quite expensive, Justin Bettman had a fantastic idea. He points out that all you really need to build a set is a wall and a floor, so instead of paying for space, he would build his own sets on the free sidewalks. In NYC where many people don't drive, people tend to buy new furniture when they move home, instead of transporting everything they have. This means that people leave their old furniture behind on the streets or give it away for free on Craiglist! And here is where Justin snapped up his pieces for his photos. He pursued this project in order to get people to question perspective. When people look at the cropped images, many think they are actual interiors. This gets people to recognize that when you're looking at a small part of a big picture, you can often be mislead. Awesome!
