Did you ever think you’d hear about people fighting over a vegetable? A vegetable-shaped plush toy, to be exact. A lot of bizarre events have happened throughout this decade, but we never thought we’d see the day when people would lose their minds over Aldi’s Kevin the Carrot toy. For those of you who’ve been unaware of this adorable carrot’s existence, he’s been the star of Aldi’s Christmas campaigns since 2016. No, scratch that. Kevin is Aldi’s superstar, given the fact that his supersized plush version caused pandemonium in the stores’ aisles!
This plush carrot is quite possibly the biggest vegetable toy that we’ve seen
Carrots are usually pretty small. In fact, Kevin is officially just 3-inches tall. Just like the real thing. But his cuddly counterpart stretches up 2-meters tall! The size makes it the perfect buddy for the winter season!
“He’s back! A warm cuddly Kevin that everyone will adore. This exclusive 1-metre Giant Kevin The Carrot Plush is the perfect gift for any fan of the popular Kevin the Carrot Christmas story.”
Aldi UK also specified that the plush toy is made with soft Velboa faux fur, which makes it the perfect cuddle buddy for children and children-at-heart. The giant plush toy comes smiling in his iconic pale blue circus suit! (In our opinion, he looks more like the prince of carrots than a circus master.)

Aldi released the Kevin on Orange Thursday
The toy went live on Aldi’s online shopping platform first before it went to the physical shops. It went on sale online at 3am and sold out within hours. Shortly after, the carrot plush began popping up on eBay for hundreds of pounds. Later, Aldi shipped two million toys to stores nationwide, in anticipation of the rush that this particular toy inspires.
Shoppers were only allowed to buy two Kevin plush toys
“We know our Kevin the Carrot soft toys and merchandise are incredibly popular with our customers and this year we increased the amount on offer,” Julie Ashfield, Aldi UK’s managing director said. “To give as many Kevin fans as posisble the chance to buy the range, we have limited purchases to two soft toys per customer but as with all of our special buys, once they’re gone, they’re gone.”
This limitation only made the cheerful carrot plush all the more desirable for shoppers. Thousands started lining up outside the store as early as 6:30 in the morning and all hell broke loose when Aldi’s doors opened to welcome them in. People literally started fighting in the aisles over the chance of taking home the dapper carrot and its friends! Surprisingly, Tiny Tom and Kevin’s nemesis Russel Sprout were also bestsellers during the shopping bonanza.
