On November 12, McDonald’s Singapore took its unsuspecting fans by surprise with its announcement that they will be the first to sell the global McDonald’s Hello Kitty meal. The news naturally sent fans reeling, especially since the hype over their first-ever, limited edition lounge wear has just begun to fade away.
This isn’t the first time the food giant has collaborated with Sanrio. They’ve been adding a dash of cuteness in our cheat day meals for years now. In fact, the release of the Hello Kitty-inspired meal carriers appears to be a follow up on the success of the My Melody carriers that they released last year.

Based on their official announcement, McDonald’s Singapore’s new Hello Kitty experience is a “world first”, which means you can’t find anything like it anywhere else yet. It costs SGD$7.90 with any Extra-Value Meal purchase. It’s also important to note that the Hello Kitty meal carrier can only be purchased in person in-store. This means that you can’t get it through ordering via Drive-Thru, McDelivery, or Grab.

The Hello Kitty meal carrier can easily fit a pack of fries and a drink. However, that’s not all that it’s good for. This super adorable Sanrio carrier allows for a hands-free snack carrying experience since it comes with a strap. So if you don’t really feel like holding the carrier, you can just wear it as a bag or hang it at the back of the car seat during those fun road trips!
The meals caused a frenzy among fans but its release day was surprisingly super un-chaotic

Usually, we expect chaos and pandemonium to ensue when limited edition items go on sale. However, this was not the case for the launch of the Hello Kitty carrier at McDonald’s stores across Singapore. Upon learning of the new McDonald’s release, people geared themselves for the epic line ahead. (Because hello, that’s what happens during the launching day of anything.) Nearly everyone found themselves with the cute carrier in less than 30 minutes!

The staff were definitely ready for battle. Their highly-organized approach to the debut of the Hello Kitty carrier definitely made things run super smoothly. According to those who went to get the McDonald’s Hello Kitty meal, you wouldn’t even notice that special event was going on because the atmosphere was so calm. On November 14, crowds of fans wanting to get the cute snack carrier flocked to stores. They didn’t cause any kind of commotion at all. Which is something we hope to see more often in launch events in the future.
