Creativity knows no age and no one is too old to learn something new. Remember the 77-year-old Japanese man who turned artist after his retirement and impressed the world with his Excel spreadsheet paintings? We found a similar artist from Valencia, Spain – a 91-year-old woman who creates spectacular artwork in Microsoft Paint. While this free computer program is developed for the creation of picture files, we all know how it’s significantly harder to use than other drawing programs.
But Concha Garcia Zaera seemed to have mastered a piece of technology that most of us have struggled to work with. Without the aid of the latest digital art tools, she creates the drawings in Microsoft Paint by using only the computer mouse as her paintbrush. And if you think one cannot make elaborate art using pixels then you only need to look at her creations to prove you’re wrong. Most of her digital paintings feature breathtaking scenes of nature and architecture rendered in pixels and vibrant colors. Those who have tried drawing using this pre-installed program know too well how difficult and time-consuming it is to achieve these amazing results.

Zaera began her Microsoft Paint art 12 years ago when her children gave her a Windows 7 computer to help her pass the time after her husband died. She had taken art classes before but the strong smell of paint put her off. While she was tinkering with the pre-installed apps on her PC, she discovered the painting software and began to learn the ropes by herself. That’s when she discovered that she could actually create a painting without having to endure the strong odor of paints.

The creative woman never looked back since. She’s mostly inspired by her hometown but she also finds inspiration from other beautiful places that she usually sees on postcards and other drawings. In 2017, one of her granddaughters convinced her to create an Instagram page where she can show her Microsoft Paint art to the world. She has created more than 150 digital paintings and you can find her entire collection on Instagram. You can show the senior artist some love by following her and giving ‘hearts’ to her every masterpiece.
