Kyaraben is the shortened form of kyarakuta bento which translates to character boxed lunch in English. It involves a creative style of arranging food to make them look like animals, plants, people and pop culture characters.

So, Etoni Mama really goes out of her way to prepare her children’s food. By, treating each dish like a piece of art, Etoni Mama intricately arranges all food elements in a platter or container. Above all, she makes them look like cartoon characters that her children—8, 10 and 12 years of age—would absolutely love!
She makes mealtimes for her three kids more fun and exciting by incorporating cute cartoon characters into their meals
But, no matter what the ingredient is, Etoni Mama is sure to find a way to transform it into an adorable character
In Fact, Etoni Mama knows what it’s like to have a picky eater in the family, because it was her fussy second daughter who inspired her to make mealtimes more enjoyable with fun food arrangements and presentations.
“I first got an idea to create a face out of ingredients in order to make it fun for my picky second daughter.”
While she works with a variety of ingredients for her meals, she’s particularly talented at using fried eggs as the base for her characters

But, working as a nursery teacher, the mom behind the meals revealed that she only has limited time a day to prepare meals. So, on average, it takes her about an hour to finish a single character-based dish, complete with plating and garnishing. Despite the time constraints, she ensures to make the dishes taste as good as they look.
“When I look at the ingredients, I can imagine many characters. But since it’s the food for my daughters, it is absolutely necessary for it to be delicious.”
