If you’re like me, you’ve probably been trying to cut back on drinking soda after learning the scary amount of sugar that goes into it. But quitting the fizzy drinks isn’t exactly something one can achieve easily. Thankfully, the new Mountain Dew Zero Sugar has arrived to save us from a life without fizz! This exciting new drink reportedly offers the full Dew flavor without the risk of cavities and in extreme cases diabetes. MTN DEW’s Vice President of Marketing, Nicole Portwood, said this in a press release:
“Because our fans are uncompromising with the DEW they know and love, we knew had to pull off a formulation that would preserve the great taste of the original. MTN DEW Zero Sugar delivers a bold flavor and ever-evolving consumer preferences.”
It’s important to note that this drink isn’t exactly the brand’s first venture in lessening their sugar content. In fact, Taco Bell offers a Mountain Dew Baja Blast Sugar free drink and it reportedly tastes just like the regular Dew. And, in case you’re wondering, this Zero Sugar version isn’t here to replace the Diet Dew. A gram of sugar in the Diet Dew is what sets it apart from the new drink. On the other hand, the Mountain Dew Zero Sugar still has the same “crisp, bold lemon lime flavor” while having absolutely no sugar and calories. What a time to be alive!

Mountain Dew Zero Sugar still tastes like the original Dew even though it’s dropped some ingredients from the mix
The brand’s Zero Sugar offering comes with a lot less ingredients compared to the others. For example, the concentrated orange juice has been removed from the zero sugar concoction. And instead of sugar, the new drink will be sweetened with acesulfame potassium together with aspartame and sucralose. Acesulfame potassium, also known as acesulfame K or ace K, is an artificial sweetener. It’s around 200 times sweeter than sugar, but it doesn’t add any calories whatsoever to your drink. This new, healthier offering from the soda brand also has a higher caffeine content, at 133mg per 20 fl oz, than its competitors.
Mountain Dew rang in the new year with their new offering. The brand new sugarless soda hit shelves on the first weeks of January 2020, in a variety of forms. It’s available in 2-liter bottles, 20-ounce bottles, a dozen of 12-ounce cans and a variety of other single and multi-pack offerings. But if you can’t wait for your order to arrive and want to sip on one as soon as possible, you can use the Mountain Dew website to see which retailer nearest you carries the product.
