Adding green elements in our home is a practical and environmentally-friendly way of beautifying our personal space. However, those adorable plant pots take up space. Their presence, though appreciated, can present some challenges because of this. This issue is what Taiwanese industrial design student Pei-Ju Wu hopes to solve with her gorgeous Oasis glass table. In her description, she expressed her hopes of bringing more greenery back to people’s homes and to turn it into the center of everyday life.
Pei-Ju recognized that despite living in cities, people still want to be near nature. According to her, people feel imprisoned in lifeless buildings so they use indoor plants in an effort to liven things up. “Potted plants are no longer corner decorations, but a new statement of the coexistence of furniture and nature in the interior” Wu wrote.
The Oasis glass table seamlessly combines the form and function to include greenery in your home without getting in your way
Wu’s conceptual table displays a plant underneath a transparent glass top. This design allows the plant to become a part of your everyday life without disturbing you in any way. It simply grows while providing both an aesthetically pleasing and eco-friendly element to your home.
You’re probably wondering how to keep the plant alive while it’s underneath a glass surface, the answer’s pretty simple. The design features a funnel. You can easily water your plant by pouring water down the center of the table. The water will pass through a central pipe, effectively minimizing the risk of leaks at the same time. This was included to save you from the trouble of lifting and running the risk of breaking the glass top.
It’s designed to keep both you and the plant happy
Another awesome aspect of the Oasis table is that it also has an LED strip present to provide proper light to your plant. This lighting feature can also be used when you don’t feel like having bright lights on. You can choose to manually switch the light on or off, or set it on automatic using the built-in timer.
As for the plant included in the design, Wu appears to have chosen it specifically for its hanging quality. The loose foliage takes on the appearance of a lush and vibrant natural tablecloth you’ll never see anywhere. In addition to this, the table’s body comes in a grey finish, which gives it that elegant, sleek and modern look homeowners typically choose today. The glass also has a subtle green hue that’ll help highlight the plant underneath.
As of writing, the table is still a conceptual project. However, we are eagerly looking forward to the day that this design actually becomes available for purchase. There’s already a special place for this table in my home in my mind!
