Get ready to feel the nostalgia with these retro McDonald’s Happy Meal Toys. Forty years of Happy Meals at McDonald’s… how time has passed so quickly. And to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the kids meal that brought McDonald’s on top of the fast food industry, it’s bringing back some of its popular toys over the past four decades. If you missed out these Happy Meal toys back then, now is your chance to get your hands on them.
The giant quick-service restaurant launched the first ever Happy Meal in the US in June 1979. The kids meal was originally named The Circus Wagon Happy Meal. Inside the wagon-like box is a hamburger or cheeseburger, fries and cookies. And some of the earliest toys included are McDoodler stencil, McWrist wallet and a spinning top. After this marketing tactic became a huge hit in the US, McDonald’s decided to expand the meal internationally. And for 40 years, the Happy Meal has been surprising kids and grown-ups alike all over the world. Furthermore, some of the toys included in the meal have become collector’s items.
In order to commemorate the humble beginnings and the worldwide success of McDonald’s Happy Meal, the iconic fast food chain is launching the limited-edition Surprise Happy Meal. This meal features some fan-favorite toys from the ‘80s and ‘90s era. The surprising lineup includes the 1988 McNugget Trio (Cowboy, Fireman, and Mail Carrier), 1989 Hamburger Changeable, 1990 Grimace, 1991 Dino Happy Meal, 1993 Hot Wheels, 1995 Hamburglar, 1995 Power Rangers, 1996 Bugs Bunny, 1997 Patti the Platypus, 1997 101 Dalmatians, 1998 Tamagotchi, 1998 My Little Pony, 1999 Furby, 2002 Mickey Mouse, and 2013 Hello Kitty. Expect to see one of these retro McDonald’s Happy Meal toys inside the red box starting November 7 until November 11.
“Since the Happy Meal was introduced on the menu, it quickly became synonymous with our brand,” Steve Easterbrook, McDonald’s CEO, said in a press release. “Today, this iconic red box creates lasting memories for billions of families annually across the world.”
