These bizarre-looking ponds look like they've had some Photoshop treatment, however they are the real deal. The artificial potash evaporation ponds in Moab, Utah, are used for dying out the fertilizer by the largest potash producer in the US Intrepid Potash. The company extracts the potash (potassium chloride) from deep within the earth with hot water jets and then pumps the melted substance to these awesome looking ponds. It then takes 300 days to evaporate, leaving just crystals behind. Blue light-absorbing dye is added and these amazing colors show the different stages in the evaporation process. The ponds produce up to 1000 tons of potash every day and they look absolutely awesome. Take a look!
