Don’t you just hate losing sleep because of someone’s snores? The thing is, sleeping is one of the few things that everyone collectively loves to do. Unfortunately, some transform into roaring trucks when they slip into deep sleep. And even if the person does or doesn’t acknowledge their disruptive sleeping pattern, there’s really nothing anyone can do about it. There’s been about 125 different “cures” and none of them have truly worked. But there’s still hope that we won’t have to put up with the snores anymore thanks to this ingenious forehead buzzer!
This clever new device called the Somnibel, was created specifically to help ease the obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA). And all you have to do is to stick it on the notorious snoring person’s forehead to make it work. The forehead buzzer may look funny, but it’s purpose is no laughing matter. According to its product page, Sibelmed describes the Somnibel as:
“It is a medical product that consists of a small piece of equipment weighing 17g that sticks to the forehead using a single-use hypoallergenic adhesive.
The device lightly vibrates when the patient sleeps in the supine position to induce him to change body position, reducing the occurrence of respiratory events while sleeping, whether as a result of positional apnea and snoring.”
So essentially, this plaster-sized forehead buzzer that reminds your body to sleep on its side rather than on your back to prevent you from creating thunder rolls.
12 participating patients from the University of Araba put the snore-stopping device to the test. And in the first week of the trial, apneas dropped by 31%! Sheffield University’s ear, nose, and throat specialist, Professor Jaydip Ray explained that:
“Simple snoring is a common social and medical problem that adversely affects many people. Easy to use, unobtrusive wearable devices are miniaturised accelerometers are a welcome solution for many of them. The initial study is encouraging.”
The device is not available for purchase yet, however, the website states that it will be for sale soon. Hopefully they decide to sell the Somnibel before Christmas. Because the best gift to any victims of snores is the gift of undisturbed sleep. Read more about the Somnibel here.
