If you haven't heard of something common or popular, you might be jokingly asked if you've been living under a rock. Well, the residents of the Spanish town of Setenil de las Bodegas actually have! This little town, with a population of around 3,000 people, is literally built underneath a giant rock. Located close to the river Rio Trejo, it's thought that people have lived in this area for several thousand years. It's possible that early settlers chose to build the town under, into and around the rock as it offered shade and kept temperatures down inside homes and buildings. The town's unique beauty makes it popular with tourists, for day trips or even as a base for their whole holiday. It's known for having some of the best bars and restaurants in the region, so there are definitely worse places to stay! Let's take a look!
What an awesome town! It's amazing how human civilization can adapt to make the most of its surroundings!
