Winter is arguably the best season of the year, but it does come with some problems too. For starters, sidewalks get covered with snow, which makes walking difficult, not to mention dangerous. Plus, it just becomes ten times harder to use our phones outside in the cold. Well, the Tahka texting mittens might just be the perfect solution to this winter woe.
Created by Canada-based arts and crafts teacher Mina Mais, this unconventional hand muff features a transparent window in the center. So, it allows you to use your phone even in the cold while keeping your hands warm. More importantly, it also protects your phone from freezing weather.

It’s a known fact that smartphones don’t operate well under extremely cold temperatures. However, keeping them inside your pocket or bag for the whole day just seems illogical. So, this prompted Mais and her team to develop the Tahka gloves.
The gloves are primarily made of waterproof nylon which offers optimal protection against moisture, wind, rain and snow. There are also safety knit cuffs on both ends to prevent cold air from getting inside the mittens. The gloves also come with a fleece lining and a lightweight thermal insulation fabric to make sure your hands stay warm and comfy inside. Lastly, the window is made of high-quality plastic with an anti-fog coating.
This unique winter accessory also comes with an adjustable strap. So, you can simply hang it around your neck for convenient phone use on the go. Each set also includes a “talisman” that you can use to wipe your mittens’ window and your phone screen.
Unfortunately, despite the creator’s good intention in designing this product, the project failed to reach its funding goal on Kickstarter. So, this only means that there’s no way for us to get our hands on these smartphone-friendly mittens.
Luckily, we’ve found a good alternative on Amazon, and it’s called the Textpac Hand Muff. Apparently, it’s designed for hunters, but it also serves the same purpose of allowing you to use your phone in the cold while keeping your hands warm. You can find out more about this product here.
