Now that most people have flat screen TVs, which look more attractive and can even be wall mounted, the days of having a big, bulky television or media cabinet are numbered. One Redditor, Perma4, decided to take their old TV cabinet and turn it into something awesome. We're big fans of re-purposing or up-cycling old items, so we think this project is amazing. In fact, we're rather jealous! If you have an old media cabinet gathering dust, this is an excellent project you could undertake. And, if you've already got rid of your old one, you can often find them for free or cheap on Craigslist.
Here's the original TV cabinet. It looks a bit tired and outdated.
The first step was to remove the door and take out the shelves.
Then the top piece was removed.
The cabinet was too tall, so a good chunk was sawed off the top.
That's more like it!
Then the back piece needed to be reattached.
So that the top could be put back on.
Seeing as it's now shorter, the door had to be cut down to size and reglazed.
The final step was to turn the excess wood into shelves fitted with LED lights.
Cool!
The old TV cabinet is now a gorgeous liquor cabinet. Those floating shelves are a really nice touch!
We think this piece of furniture looks way better as a liquor cabinet than it did before.
