Growing up in southern California, artist Isabel Emrich has been fascinated by the dazzling yet tranquil beauty of water. As a kid, her grandmother often take her up on the cliffs where they can overlook the sea. And her grandmother would encourage her to paint what she sees. This gave spark to her interest in painting. In order to fulfill her dream of becoming a professional painter, she moved to San Francisco in 2013. She studied at The Academy of Art University and received her BFA in Fine Art Painting and Drawing in 2016. Her fascination with water gave her an idea on what her subject matter in painting would be. Since then, she has been creating breathtaking underwater oil paintings.
Influenced by the great Expressionist painter Van Gogh, she uses vibrant color palette in energetic brush strokes to capture the dynamic yet peaceful visual effect of water. Rippled reflections, sparkling light effects, distorted shadows, her oil paintings indeed conveys the sensation of being submerged in water. By using strong and fluid brushwork, she was able to echo the nature of water while giving the perception of being in the moment.
Most of Emrich’s underwater oil paintings depict women floating freely with their faces breaking the surface. One of the most fascinating details of her artworks is the different colors popping through the light as they seem to dance on the subject’s skin in mesmerizing patterns. Take a dive into her collection of bewitching underwater oil paintings and explore the spellbinding beauty of water.
