No other painters in history have inspired modern artists (and even musicians) more than Dutch post-impressionist painter Vincent van Gogh. The venerable painter has created about 2,100 artworks in just over a decade of his short-lived career. Van Gogh is immortalized through his iconic paintings such as The Starry Night (1889), Sunflowers (1888), Almond Blossoms (1890), and his series of self-portraits. But aside from his unique paintings, the celebrated artist’s troubled life makes his story one for the books. Sadly, Van Gogh did not get the recognition he deserved when he was alive. It was until after his death when the world finally acknowledged his works. To celebrate his legacy, Vans unveiled its Van Gogh-inspired fashion line, in collaboration with the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.
The Vans x Van Gogh Museum collection was launched in August 3, 2018. This Van Gogh-inspired fashion line includes Vans classic sneakers and apparels featuring the artist’s masterpieces. Vans aims to pay tribute to the influential artist and to inform future generations of his eminence as a painter. Pieces of the collection are printed with Van Gogh’s famous paintings such as Sunflowers, Almond Blossoms, Skull (1887), and Self-Portrait as a Painter (1888). The designers replicated Van Gogh’s signature brush strokes and handwriting onto each piece of apparels. Furthermore, each piece has a hangtag that recounts historical background of the artwork.
“We are delighted with the Vans x Van Gogh Museum collection, as it ties in with our mission to make the life and work of Vincent van Gogh accessible to as many people as possible in order to enrich and inspire them,” Adriaan Dönszelmann, Managing Director of the Van Gogh Museum, said. “By uniting Van Gogh’s iconic artworks with iconic Vans styles, our partnership brings Vincent’s art ‘Off The Wall’ and into the world to a new audience outside the museum.”
Vans collaborated with Van Gogh Museum to bring this limited edition Van Gogh-inspired fashion line
Unfortunately, the Van Gogh-inspired fashion line is already sold out on Vans website. But you can visit any Vans retail and wholesale locations for available stocks. It’s also notable to point out that Vans had donated a portion of each sale to the Van Gogh Museum.
